My grocery cart

grocery cart
My daughter and I had a light grocery list this week. We have several meals already prepared in advance that we froze and will use during the course of this week. I also picked up some additional produce; carrots, sugar snap peas, organic strawberries, and fresh mango salsa at Whole Foods in Annapolis yesterday. The vegetables were actually less expensive at Whole Foods than they are at Giant in Easton. The crumbled feta cheese was also a better price. I bought some anti-biotic free ground lamb to use in an Indian recipe. I also bought a pilli chilli chocolate bar that is really hot. I would not really save any money by shopping in Annapolis on a weekly basis because the cost of gas and the $4.00 bridge toll has to be factored in. I do like shopping in Whole Foods if I am in Annapolis anyway.

Mardi Gras at Paladar

My daughter and I enjoyed “Fat Tuesday” at Paladar in Annapolis last night. The first picture I posted from our dinner is a Brazillian street food called Chocolate Brigaderos. These tasty chocolate truffles with a hint of chili spice are dressed up for the occasion. I doubt that they come with a berry coulis, fresh whipped cream, and a mint leaf from a street vendor. Kristin enjoyed a chorizo, goat cheese, and cabbage soft tacos. I had Feijoada, a traditional Latin American stew made with chorizo, pulled pork, peppers (both hot and sweet), cabbage, and black beans.

“The Real Deal” healthy snacks.

I live in Denton, but my sister and her family live in Easton. I spend a lot of time in Easton and I often stop in to Earth Origins to shop. My daughter and I have discovered a great snack. The veggie chips made by The Real Deal Company are made from peas and very low fat, low calorie. We prefer the variety marked SRIRACHA because they have a little bit of heat added to their crunchy goodness. Snack foods, particularly things like potato chips, are usually loaded with salt and fat. These veggie chips have 2.5g of fat per 100 chips, and only 70mg of sodium. If you are watching your sugar intake then the 1g of sugar in these snacks is not too bad either. There are 2g of dietary fiber, and 3g of protein in each serving. Happy Snacking!

Memories of my grandmother

My grandmother lived in Memphis, Tennessee. We drove the thousand miles once a year to visit with her. She was a great cook and I have several of her original recipes that I treasure. Her spaghetti recipe is our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. It is comfort food that brings back great memories of family gatherings.
